More to come, but for now: these pictures
were taken early on, at the beginning of the
exhibition. People kept coming all evening; there
was so much interest that the display stayed up
until almost 10 pm.
After dusk, Tawassul showed the video "Naji
Al-Ali, An Artist with Vision", a
documentary that commemorates Naji Al-Ali's life.
Nitin set up a screen outdoors and folks sat on
the ground in the park to watch. Check out the
video at palestineonlinestore...
"Commemorates the life of a man who
lived according to his ideals and never
forgot his people, even when he was among the
highest paid journalists in the Arab world.
Naji lives on through his cartoons, and the
video makes it possible to share this
controversial artwork with a new audience,
despite persistent attempts at censure."
- Educational Media Reviews Online
"This valuable film... goes a long way
toward preserving the memory of Naji al-Ali,
allowing future generations to draw
inspiration from this remarkable individual.
Does an outstanding job of introducing not
only the personality of al-Ali, but also the
most important events shaping his work...
Includes an excellent cross-section of the
thousands of political drawings Al-Ali
published in his lifetime." ~ Al Jadid:
A Review & Record of Arab Culture and
Arts
